LEAP24 is building its own network of fast-charging stations for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and light trucks. To get around the problem of grid congestion, LEAP24 has developed a solution for building charging stations without heavy grid connections.
The growing need for emissions-free urban logistics and the imminent introduction of approximately 30 Zero Emission Zones for delivery vans and trucks in Dutch cities make the rapid development of a good charging network a necessity. Due to grid congestion in the Netherlands, building a fast-charging station is not easy, and it sometimes takes years before a network connection is possible. LEAP24 has chosen not to wait for this connection, but with the help of a new supplier is developing a special solution that makes it possible to build a fast-charging station using the already existing light grid connection.
A fast-charging station has been built in Leeuwarden with 5 separate batteries and 4 spacious 240 kW charging spots. It is a modular system; if the location receives a (high-voltage) connection in the future, the entire installation can be reinstalled at a new location that faces a similar challenge in terms of grid connection. With this, LEAP24 continues to build and offer charging services at a time when grid congestion is the biggest stumbling block to building fast-charging locations. LEAP24 now has 12 fast-charging locations operational in the Netherlands, and is hard at work building a network in the Netherlands, Germany and England.
